Dear Recovering Me,

Remember that you are doing just that, you are recovering. The word recovery means to "return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength." But, there's no perfect way about it, and no specific timeline. No pressure right?

I know you have a hard time letting go the need to have everything figured out, but sometimes recovery means to sit back and let things sit. Recovery and grief can feel similar to you, and that is okay. You are grieving the old view of yourself, and learning new ways to function mentally. Just because you feel like you are stronger mentally, don't be surprised if the feelings pop back in to say hello sometimes. It is okay to feel overwhelmed when that happens, and reach out to those who understand. I know recovery can feel lonely, especially when dealing with a mental disorder... because only you truly know how it feels. But, you need your cheerleaders. I know this disorder creeped in because of trauma, and lack of control in your life... but we are meant to go through this thing called life with the ones that love us. Remember to let go of some of that control and let people love you. Needing some extra love and support does not make you weak, but actually makes you brave and strong for recognizing that.

I am really proud of how far you have come in your mental strength, determination, and allowing yourself to fuel yourself right, and rest when needed. You are re-learning so much about yourself, including how important it is to treat your body with respect. It takes a lot of work to create new neural pathways, but every day you are teaching your mind how to love yourself well. That is an important task, and I see you putting in the consistent work.

You have been seeing increased strength, and performance in your life, but don't let that distract you from loving yourself just because you are you. Just showing up and being you is enough. The rest can easily fade, but the love and respect that you have for yourself is the foundation. Trust yourself, and give yourself a ton of grace as you continue your journey. Stay brave

One day at a time
